Cross cultural aspect
Turkey
- being late is not nice, but if a patient or therapist is late, it is good to apologize and explain;
-In Turkey, elderly people like to be greeted with respect and love. They want to see the interest of the physiotherapist in the context of communication by asking how they are and how they feel from day to day.
Likewise in Turkey - The physiotherapist should address the patient using Mr./Ms. and their full name unless the patient requests otherwise. The physiotherapist should not address the patient as “you”;
- The therapist should warn the patient about the course of the visit, which tests/examinations will be performed and for what purpose. Especially if the therapist has to touch the patient for examination purposes, he/she should warn about this and obtain the patient’s consent.
- What similarities have you noticed in your culture?
- What differences have you noticed in your culture?
- What should you pay attention to when caring for a patient with different cultural values?
