Intended effects leading to improving communication with the patient
In this lesson you will learn what approach a person with intellectual disabilities can have to physical activity as well as what attitudes can be adopted by family and immediate surroundings (excessive protectiveness, lack of support, lack of faith in possibilities, ignorance about possibilities).
You will be aware of what factors may hinder physical activity and what can support it. You will also receive guidance on how the reactions of the person with intellectual disability and their caregiver may vary depending on the culture and country of origin, and what to do to respect the beliefs and cultural traditions of the person with intellectual disability while being an effective therapist. Attention will be paid to the fact that people with intellectual disabilities have the right to lead an independent life to the extent they need, and that when planning a therapeutic process, they cannot be deprived of the right to self-determination and interfere in their lives beyond what they wish.
