A goal leading to improving communication with the patient, cross-cultural aspect

Disability is a long-term physical, mental, psychosocial or sensory impairment which, together with many other barriers, can limit a person’s ability to participate fully, effectively and equally in society. The functional limitations of people with sensory disabilities, in this case visual impairment, can make communication between physiotherapist and patient very difficult. This chapter provides practical suggestions for overcoming these communication problems. The aim is to teach you how to communicate with a blind person in a confident and sensitive way that is acceptable and comfortable for that person, considering personality differences, from the first moment you meet the patient.
