8. Dynamic balance: Timed up and go
Timed up and go – the speed of the task is informative, but also the quality of the movement. For E.g. evaluation of the Tinetti balance scale gives a clue: movement is continuous, firm (free of sway and instability), steps are symmetrical, heel placement is accurate, no trunk sway, joint positions are correct (no knee or trunk flexion or other), no gait aids, if present use them well.
If the task is completed in 12 seconds or more, an indication is given, while performance above 15 seconds indicates an explicit risk.
